Would you call this kid “disabled?” I don’t think so!
Aaron Fotheringham is an extreme athlete; you know, one of those people who has a need for speed and will figure out a way to jump, flip, slide or fly over things you and I wouldn’t dream of attempting.
And Aaron is good at what he does. He’s been featured on CNN, The Carson Daly Show, and Secret Millionaire.
As Aaron tells it, his older brothers took him to a skate park when he was 8 years old, and he was hooked from the get-go. It didn’t bother Aaron or his brothers that Aaron uses a wheelchair instead of a BMX bike or skateboard. Aaron competes, and attempts new stunts with his wheelchair just as other athletes do with their chosen vehicles.
Take a look at this footage to see Aaron in action.
My hat is off to this inspiring young athlete. Since my own son used to fly around the skate park on his roller blades I have been in awe of the stunts these young people do, at their athleticism, and their skill. Some kids favor bikes, some roller blades, others skateboards. So, why not wheel chairs?
